Design & Technology

The way we teach Design and Technology is through practical projects. We design for different contexts and environments, and for different purposes.

Children are taught to:

  • Design purposeful, functional and appealing products based on given design criteria.
  • Use talk, drawing, templates and mock-ups to imagine, develop, model and communicate their ideas.
  • Select and use appropriate tools for a chosen task.
  • Select and use a range of materials for a chosen task.
  • Explore and evaluate a range of existing products.
  • Evaluate their ideas and products against design criteria.
  • Build structures, exploring how they can be made stronger, stiffer and more stable
  • Explore and use mechanisms to produce movement in their products.
  • Create a product using textiles
  • Design, make and evaluate a food product

Recent work has included the creation of a rolling toy, a moving picture, a wrap and a fruit smoothie.
