The way we teach Design and Technology is through practical projects. We design for different contexts and environments, and for different purposes.
Children are taught to:
- Design purposeful, functional and appealing products based on given design criteria.
- Use talk, drawing, templates and mock-ups to imagine, develop, model and communicate their ideas.
- Select and use appropriate tools for a chosen task.
- Select and use a range of materials for a chosen task.
- Explore and evaluate a range of existing products.
- Evaluate their ideas and products against design criteria.
- Build structures, exploring how they can be made stronger, stiffer and more stable
- Explore and use mechanisms to produce movement in their products.
- Create a product using textiles
- Design, make and evaluate a food product
Recent work has included the creation of a rolling toy, a moving picture, a wrap and a fruit smoothie.
